Oosthuizen was born on October 19, 1982, in Mossel Bay, South Africa. As an amateur, he has won several titles including 2000 World Junior Championship, 2001 All African Games, Transvaal Stroke Play Championship, 2002 Indian Amateur Open Championship, and Irish Amateur Open Championship.
Career
Oosthuizen turned pro in 2002 at the age of 19. He has won several professional tournaments on the Sunshine Tour including Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour, Dimension Data Pro-Am, Platinum Classic, and the Telkom PGA Championship.
In 2010, he entered the 2010 Open Championship ranked 54th in the Official World Golf Ranking. His popularity went through the roof after winning the Open Championship. With that win, he became the fourth man from South Africa to win the Claret Jug and moved to the 15th in the Official World Golf Ranking. In March 2010, he won his first European Tour at Open de Andalucia de Golf and the 2010 Masters Par 3 contest.
After the 2010 Open Championship, Oosthuizen played in several events. In 2011, he won his third European Tour title winning Africa Open in a playoff. He then successfully defended his title at the Africa Open in 2012 with a two-stroke victory over Tjaart Van der Walt.
